Happy New Year to all! (Still another 3 1/2 hours for me yet)
-
New years resolutions anyone?
-
Now that we're pretty sure the world isn't going to be ending any time soon, it seemed like a good time to promote our Premium packages. From now until January 1st, package rates have been reduced. A 3 month subscription is available for US$4.00 (regularly $7.99), and a yearly option is available for US$15.00 (regularly 23.99). Renewal prices will revert to the then current rate, so locking in a yearly subscription will ensure the lowest rates until next year and another possible discount. Premium members surf ad-free, enjoy a private forum with no content restrictions, and get a special colored username. Your subscription helps pay for new site content and features, and sometimes to help pay for hosting when we're in a pinch. If you're interested, you can take a look at the membership options here: http://www.soccersho.../subscriptions/ Although the holiday promotion has ended, a new pricing structure is being announced. Quarterly Premium is now a flat $6. Yearly Premium is a flat $20 with no automatic renewal.

Wow, that took exactly two posts until Luke showed up and turned it into another sex-related thread. With Taylor and Pink on the list, I'll add Ke$ha.

My sympathies to all of those affected by the tragic shooting in Connecticut.
-
Tragic news. The thoughts of the majority of people across the pond are with the families and the loved ones affected.
-
What makes me a bit upset is that the killer gets more attention than the victims. I say it's the various newspapers faults making him famous.
-
That's the case now, but eventually people will still think of the victims and the "crazy kid" who did the shooting. We really do need more armed guards in more places where people gather.

They are supposedly including more back story from Tolkiens texts on Middle Earth to do so. I'm a big enough geek that I will see all of the films regardless of how many were made. And I'll probably own the extended cut Blu-ray for all of them just as I do the original LOTR.

SoccerShouts Updates for Q4 2012 I seem to do a pretty bad job whenever I create a monthly updates thread. The last couple of "monthly" threads I ended up posting to for a full month or two past when I should have created a new thread. So, I figure I will try a new format here and see if I do better by creating a quarterly thread. So far this month we've had a few updates. New Modern theme Classic and Create skins were just updated for compatibility. Classic also got a slightly new layout. All skins are now showing our social bar, which allows for one click access to our Facebook, instant page translation, and site chat with your online friends. The gallery categories were updated to combine Player and Team images. Member graphics/portfolios can now be created as private folders. Topic hover preview, previously only available when viewing the list of topics in a forum, now works on the board home when highlighting threads. Video forum threads now include a thumbnail preview. These images are drawn from the first graphic used in the thread. When viewing posts, you can now highlight and selectively quote from a post. Similarly, @mention is available and will notify the person mentioned. In user notification preferences, you can now opt to be notified if your posts or topics are edited/moved/deleted by a moderator. That's it so far, but we will have more to come, as we are in a constant state of development. In the future I am still looking to start a monthly member spotlight, add tutorials on how to get the most out of the forum and its extensive features, have even more themes, and a redesign on the main page. If anyone else has any ideas, let me know. I'm determined to make SoccerShouts the best and friendliest soccer community and feedback from our members can help make that happen. -Bill

Wow, that seems a bit delayed. Would be a way to keep old topics going though by notifying a month later.
-
Oh if only I had time for the books. But with work, video games, and other tv shows, 1000+ page books are a bit much right now.
-
It may have just been old data cached in the browser. Glad to see it is working for you now!

I will do some more testing and see if I can make it work on a lower resolution. Edit: I've increased the fixed size before a scroll bar appears and reduced one of the margins which was those buttons to disappear in a smaller window. I've been able to reduce my browser to a tiny box and still have proper sign-in buttons showing now. Let me know if you're still seeing an issue with it. Second update: Further increased minimum margins to prevent navigation bar from breaking into a second line and really messing up the formatting. Width is set at 1160px so if you resolution is under that everything should still display as intended but you will see a horizontal scroll bar to view the full width of the board.
-
Thanks for confirming Rahul. We're in the top resolution group though on 1080p displays. While I've tried to test across multiple settings, I can't test against all browser, OS, and resolution configurations, so it's quite possible something doesn't look right for someone else. There's already a known problem with the default skin if you use a page magnification addon that increases page size beyond a certain percentage. It makes a mess of the header and makes navigation difficult.
-
No, that is what all guests should see unless they've changed their default skin. If you happen to be signed out again in the future please take a screen shot for me.
-
Hey Muur. Since you were logged out I'm guessing you were using the default skin, aka Modern. The regular sign-in button is at the top right. I've highlighted it in the attached imaged to clarify.

Seems to be fairly unique. If you go to the TV.com page for Prison Break, the series it shows as similar is 24. I've not watched Prison Break since the pilot so I can't add anything else. http://www.tv.com/shows/prison-break/
-
Sure is. If you scroll all the way to the very bottom of the board, next to the Change Theme option is another to Mark Community Read.
-
Yeah, graphics are definitely top notch, but anything less would be disappointing. Still can't beat the classic.

Not a bad idea, though we do have outgoing links monetized with Viglink for non-Premium members currently. Viglink automatically links Amazon affiliates along with a big number of other affiliates. The thing is that other than outgoing links to file/video sites, we don't have a lot of links that would head to Amazon or elsewhere that would get the affiliate tag added. Here's the details on that as an FYI: http://www.viglink.com/

I will let you know. My copy won't even be arriving until late in the week. From what I've read so far though it is supposed to be very good. As long as I don't get my hands on a copy of Halo 4 any time soon I will actually get through some more of these games. If I do get a deal on Halo 4 my backlog will grow as that will go to the top of the pile and I'll probably spend countless hours in online games.

Oh, I know you said you were waiting for the winter sale on Steam, but Civ V went up to 75% off for today. Could be back during the winter sale, but still a great bargain right now.
-
That's good news on RDR. I was hoping for an open world game I might actually complete, because I've heard it from several people that the storyline is worth sticking with. For that matter I will probably be skipping GTA V. Last GTA games I really got into playing was 1&2. All of the games I got on sale this week were Xbox titles. I pretty much do Adventure games, RTS and city builders on PC, and save the console for everything else.

I haven't picked up Borderlands 2 yet. I think I missed a bit having never played the DLC from the first only for a GOTY to show up, so I am trying to patiently wait for the GOTY on the sequel. Dishonored actually looks quite interesting to me. I'm actually more concerned about RDR because of the open world nature. I usually don't play games like that, Grand Theft Auto etc, because I usually end up sidetracking so much that I never finish the actual storyline. I tend to prefer a more linear approach for story progression.

The autumn Steam sale is already under way. So far it has been a lot of stuff repeated from the last sale so I can't say I'm picking anything up this time around. Not yet at least. Seeing Civ V GOTY for 50% off ($25) in the US store. I did get the GOTY for Red Dead. That was a matter of convenience since the game has been out for a while. I otherwise don't buy into DLC most of the time. I do play fps like Halo and will probably buy a couple of map packs. If I think a game is going to have a good deal of big DLC packs, I just wait for a GOTY. The rest of the time, I usually end up skipping them. Basically, I'm the gamer the companies hate today. Especially with so much 'free to play' junk. I hate paying for bits and pieces, and as a result can say I rarely touch those games. Just sell me a game in a box or digitally, and be done with it.

Thanks to Black Friday sales, I picked up Dishonored and Sleeping Dogs at a very good price. In the matter of games that I knew I would get, but was in no real hurry, I also picked up the first CoD Black Ops and Red Dead Redemption. I almost got the new Medal of Honor Warfighter while I was at it, but needed to save a bit of money to actually buy some other people presents. I also figure that with the lack of promotion EA is showing for MoH, the price on that game will plummet quickly going into 2013.
