I'm pretty sure it won't force the update. But I have all my updates set to download automatically but install manually. Really annoying though. Every time I turn on my computer or wake it from sleep I get a pop up notification about Win10 now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Win10 is a lot better than 8 for sure. I only briefly had access to 8 on my own, but fixed a few computers for people with it. The start menu is interesting, having returned to a fairly normal start menu, but with the extra section of tiles on the right. I can live with that at least. The core system seems to work okay, but then just about everything is being passed in an emulated state to virtual system, so I can't really say how things like drivers would work. One things to watch out for is privacy settings. There is a lot being said right now about how the default install basically spies on everything you do. It's easy to turn off, but definitely something to be aware of. I'm also still not sure that I trust Microsoft's new auto update, which no longer lets you install updates when you want. It's all forced on you now, at least until someone finds a way to stop that. Just one more reason I'm waiting to update.

I had actually kind of forgot about that Fallout game. Although I did just recently see that sometime this month it will be coming to Android, so that should make a lot of people happy. As for Windows 10, I do have a copy of it running inside a virtual machine. I love VMware and use it for testing a lot of stuff. I have a full Mac OS distribution I can run, and also a Linux distro that is easy to set up to play old DOS games. Much easier to set up than a dual-boot configuration.

I know that actually sounds like the simple and obvious answer, but it's actually good to hear. For the first year or two, a lot of our traffic came from shared links and word out mouth, and not so much from search engines. It seems we are being listed more now, so it definitely helps more people find us.

Well, hopefully Win10 works out well with backwards compatibility then. I do have VMware and can easily run an instance of Windows XP or just about anything else, but obviously the system loses a good deal of performance running a game inside a VM OS. As for the Win10 upgrade itself, unless you are in a hurry to check it out, might I suggest waiting at least a couple of months? The reports I've read make it seem like Microsoft is rushing a bit to get this out the door to make their ship date. Once it really starts landing on a lot of systems I think they will have quite a number of bugs to work out. The upgrade is free for the first year so I will probably wait at least 6 months before I even consider it. That will give them time to roll out a few patches at least. I actually didn't watch anything E3 related. Since I haven't been spending as much time playing games lately I haven't been keeping up with what's new as much lately either. On top of that, most stuff is finally shifting to PS4/XB One-only, and that's a next year purchase for me at best. I've heard good things about that Fallout Shelter game. It's sitting on my phone. One of these days I will actually launch it.

Update: It appears FBTZ/MaXxed may be down for good. The server itself seems to be offline, so access via the host IP address no longer works. This post has been retained for reference in case you ended up here looking for FBTZ. Last week I picked up on a discussion in the Shoutbox regarding fbtz.com going down. Long story short, I was able to sort out that it was just an issue with the domain itself, and the site was still alive and only the domain was screwed up. Unfortunately most of that discussion took place in the Shoutbox and had since disappeared as shouts are only kept until newer ones replace them. As there may still be people wondering what happened to the site, I thought I'd create this this thread as a more permanent answer. FBTZ/MaXxed can still be accessed via http://fbtz.soccershouts.com or direct by their host IP at http://143.95.83.41/~fbtzcom/forum/. I'm sure some people might think it's odd that I'd go out of my way to help out another community site. But, we have several members here who are also FBTZ members. It was after all the Shoutbox discussion that got me encouraged to look into things. Losing a large community with years of post history is just a shame. My own experience with database disaster on SoccerPulse taught me that lesson well. Hopefully they can bounce back from these problems. After all, having multiple resources is never a bad thing. We also welcome all new members who happen to find their way here in the process. Our registrations are always open.

A revival as a subreddit? As someone who operates a proper forum, and knowing a few other fine folks who also operate traditional forums, this makes me sad. The inability to really have any real customization beyond a few CSS edits and ***** all in terms of organization makes it nearly worthless for categorized discussion. Reddit surely works in many scenarios, but this is one it certainly won't excel in. Of course, we're also talking about replicating the a shut down but popular forum that was a giant cluster ***** having all their video threads in a single forum anyway. Update July 8: With nothing new to report and FBTZ not recovering, I'm going to close this thread now. I welcome anyone finding their way here to take a look around. We'd be happy to have you here! If by some miracle FBTZ does come back, I will reopen this thread to share that info.

I hadn't checked lately so I wasn't aware of that. It is my opinion that they won't be coming back. At least, not with the old forum. I'm sure someone could start a similar site and try to get old members involved, but that might be as close as it gets. When they lost control of the domain, I think it was a sign of things to come. Ownership had long been abandoned, which is why no one was around to fix it. Accessing the site through the IP address was a workable solution for a while. But it appears with no one in control, no one was probably paying the bills either. So it seems the entire site has finally shut down. All of this is speculation, as I have no special knowledge of what is really going on. But this does seem to be the most likely scenario.

New Members can now use the PM system immediately. This is kind of old news, as the change actually happened a few weeks ago but went unannounced at the time. After a very long period of testing, I'm confident our anti-spam measures are sufficient that by allowing everyone immediate access you won't start receiving lots of PM's about prescription drugs and fake designer clothes. New Members are still more restricted than established members and can't use the mass PM functions and are limited to how many messages they can send per day. I do believe that this is a fair compromise versus the complete block that New Members were previously subjected. In making these changes, the chat bar was removed. It's function was pretty redundant now that all members can communicate 1-on-1. It also reduces management time, as the chat was operated as a separate system from the rest of the forum, and being mostly unmonitored was a bit heavy on spam.

@@Toño, backwards compatibility is a terrible idea that just makes me spend more money. See, I'd argue that since I still have a good number of 360 games to catch up on, I can just wait on getting the new system. By the time I'm caught up, the Xbox one will be cheaper. If they had backward compatibility from the start, I probably would get a new system sooner and end up getting more new games, forgetting about or delaying the older games even longer. For now, I will continue to be happy with my last gen consoles and my PC. Speaking of the PC, any idea how Windows 10 will be with backwards compatibility to games? I will probably take advantage of the free update from my Win7 I'm currently running, but not until it has been out for a few months and I can find out about compatibility. Some of the stuff I'd play even requires a bit of effort on a 64-bit Win7 setup, so I don't want to make it even worse if 10 is going to be even less compatible.

If you don't mind getting a bit "hands on" with things you can pick up a replacement drive online pretty cheap. You could always take it into a repair shop, but at that point the cost of just buying a whole new machine might look tempting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Darn, it's been a few days since I'd bothered to check. Had no idea there was another sale going on. Ah well, hope I didn't miss anything good.
-
Was most recently playing Diablo 3 on Xbox and some party games when I had a few people together. Haven't actually bought a new game in months. Trying not to buy any new games until I get through some backlog. Then a Steam sale will come around and ruin those plans.

Not at all happy about the Mk situation. To the point I probably won't even be considering it now. If they want to move to next gen, fine, but handling it the way they are here is pointless. A later release date and a different developer is a pretty sure way to ensure the sales are terrible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Somehow I never put much thought into a story for Mortal Kombat. I haven't bought any games lately. It's kinda strange. I was always finding something new, but not much lately. I guess my lack of any new gen systems has something to do with it, but I haven't even bought anything on PC lately. Main thing I'm waiting for on PC right now is Dreamfall Chapters to complete. I hate waiting for episodic content.

Typical Microsoft. Did you own the original Xbox? If so you might remember how quickly they forgot about that system once the Xbox360 came out. History is just repeating itself here. Sony has always supported their older consoles far longer.
-
I guess I'm just not as addicted as I used to be, because I'm in not hurry at all to get to the current gen of consoles. My Xbox360 and PS3 are good enough for now. Besides, by the time I get through my backlog on those systems the price of the new stuff will have gone down, so I'll count that as a win for me. Besides, I don't have the money to drop on a new console right now even if I really did want one.

So, it's back. Anyone else watching? I'd be careful, but the first few episodes have already leaked: http://www.dailydot.com/geek/game-of-thrones-season-5-episodes-leaked/

Anyone who follows US news knows we've had some issues making headlines lately about police involved shootings. Usually I tend to give officers the benefit, because we rarely know the entire situation. But this new one in South Carolina was a blatant execution. Fortunately in this case a video has surfaced and murder charges have been brought against him. GRAPHIC CONTENT. A human being is shot to death in this video. Do not click play if you can't handle watching that. You've been warned. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdQwKNfuSiM

I'm still in the process of moving stuff around. So the console & tv have been set aside for a little while now. Haven't played anything on PC lately either, so most of what I've been doing has been a bit of gaming here and there on mobile. Hope to fix that soon.

Riva, long time no see. How have you been?

For ease of use it was set to show everyone online. Since a lot of people weren't really using the friend system it seemed like the better setting for now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Alright, we have a bar up, but consider it for testing purposes for the time being.

Took me a few to remember that chat you are talking about. I didn't realize how long it has been since it was removed. I think the version we had got outdated and was having some compatibility issues. I will look into it and see if a new version is available that is more compatible with the forum.
