  1. Well, there is one other place where it is integrated into the board. That is in your notification settings. http://www.soccershouts.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=usercp&tab=core&area=notifications If you scroll to "Notify me when someone 'likes' my posts", you can elect to have a notification added in your notifications menu at the top of the board (recommended) or have the info emailed to you (not recommended). The reason I don't recommend the latter is that it could potentially lead to a lot of excess email. As for the news feed, that is actually an totally separate add-on from the core board files, so it's less likely to get likes added to that than to use the above option.
  2. Instead of going to the News feed, when you are viewing your profile there should be a tab for "Likes". If you click this it will show posts that were received. You can also switch to given to see what posts you have recently liked.
  3. Just a reminder that the image gallery will be shutting down in two weeks on September 1st. If you have any personal images you want to save a backup copy of, please do so before the deadline. After this date, the gallery will be shut down and all uploaded images will be removed from the server.
  4. As previously noted, the scheduled removal of the image gallery has taken place today. Closing topic.
  5. Ah, that looks familiar now. Posted over 2 years ago and in that time I sort of forgot. Not sure why people would bug you about it though. Granted if you rolled up on a Ducati or something I might spend time admiring it, but I still wouldn't bother you. People can be strange.
  6. What are you driving that attracts attention? I work in a fairly good neighborhood with Mercedes, BMW's and the like all around, and I'm driving a Ford Taurus. I might as well be riding a bicycle for how much attention a car like that attracts. English is all about context. "I love you, man!" does not in a normal context imply you want him in bed later. Similarly, sharing a tender moment with a wife/girlfriend and adding an "I love you" does indeed imply romantic notions. Hence telling a close female friend that you "love her like a sister" avoids the potential awkwardness that may appear implied by "I love you" to the same friend. But as a native English speaker this just seems normal to me. I do wonder how some of our other members feel who may have only learned English as a second or third language feel about the specific contexts in the language. Being as I have zero fluency in any other language, I have no basis to make comparisons.
  7. I'm not surprised at this really. The moment it is no longer included, developers can no longer rely on everyone at least having it. That's why in the current generation things that were Playstation Move or Kinect had to be specially labeled to limit the amount of people who mistakenly bought games thinking they could play them. Sony will experience a similar issue with the Playstation 4 as the Move/Eye will once again be optional. If they reach 10% saturation of PS4 owners I will be surprised. Microsoft can at least count on 100% ownership, whether people want the thing or not. It does affect development and will likely affect end user experience between the two platforms. Whether it will be meaningful or not depends on how accepting people are of these auxiliary devices.
  8. Nope. Your photo is in the profile images folder, which means it is separated from the gallery content.
  9. I sort of disagree with this assessment. I really don't think Microsoft is going to change their minds about including one in every XB1 sale. Therefore every user will have one whether they like it or not. Accordingly, I don't think it restricts developers in the slightest. If they want to use it, so be it. Since everyone has one, it doesn't need to be optional. The only optional bit will be whether people choose to play a game that requires Kinect or avoid the game altogether. That really hasn't changed at all since plugging it in became "optional".
  10. Actually, that's a really good question. Depends on how you look at it. Would I think any less of them? Not all all. It's their body, in the end I only care what I do with my own. Were it a male friend I wouldn't think much of it at all. Were it a female friend whom I found to be attractive, would I find them less so with a tattoo? Yes, absolutely, without question. To go even a bit deeper into that question and further stress my opinion on this subject, consider this: At the point this subject came up at the beginning of the month, my girlfriend was discussing her own consideration of getting one. Now, keep in mind this is a girl that I have been with for over 5 years now. The thought entered and remains in my head that after 5 happy years together, I'm not sure I could continue to be in that relationship if she went through with it. And this is a girl I would otherwise be considering marrying in the next few years. So to further answer the above, yes, I would find even my own girlfriend less appealing if she were to get a tattoo. What makes it really interesting is that I'm generally a nice person. Easy to get along with, and rarely consider the word "hate" when considering other things people do. You'll notice that in my original post I even said I'm "not fond" of piercings. In other words, I don't overly like it, but I can deal with it. And at least a piercing can close up later. I also don't smoke or do drugs, but I have friends that do. Again, don't like it and don't participate, but that's about it. But I hate tattoos. I can see the pictures of the artwork and as I said above find some of the work to look incredible, but when I actually see the tattoo on a persons body I can only feel disgust. It's a strange situation that I figure might only be worked out after some long hours on a psychiatrists couch. Edit: I meant to include this originally but forgot. When looking up those stats yesterday, I came across and absolutely brilliant comment by a random person on the web that I do 100% agree with. Meaning, SS never really had many discussions ongoing. People initially used the site more for video and over time the video sections still continue to grow ever larger while discussions are still limited.
  11. Nah, still won't be buying one this year. Just had to put money down on a new car, and in a few months a new phone will take priority. I think the price difference will remain as Sony pulled the PS4 camera from the package but Microsoft plans to keep it.
  12. :emo6c: :emo6c: Kinect No Longer Mandatory For Xbox One (But Will Still Come With It) Another backflip? Back in May, Microsoft said that you'll need have the motion-sensing Kinect plugged in at all times in order for your Xbox One to function, but now they're reversing course once again. We already knew that you could turn off the Kinect, but now Microsoft says it doesn't have to be plugged in at all. Speaking to IGN, Microsoft's Marc Whitten shared the news that the Xbox One will indeed work without Kinect. http://kotaku.com/xbox-one-wont-actually-need-kinect-plugged-in-microso-1113142909 ... Microsoft was doing such a good job of making me want to support Sony more. Now the choice has become difficult. Not which system to get, but which one to get first.
  13. I can see where you are coming from in regards to piercings/tattoos. I also won't deny that sometimes the art is incredibly well done and highly detailed. Obviously a good number of people would disagree, but I would much rather see that kind of talent put to good use creating that art on canvas that could be displayed on a wall instead of a body. And yeah, you might look at it as discrimination, but look up the worlds top 50 CEO's, and find me someone with a long tattoo down there arm. Sure, it works for sports players, musicians, and lots of blue collar jobs. Hell no one cares if the guy working a front end loader on a construction site is covered in tattoos. But in other environments it would call into question that persons professional demeanor. How about seeing your doctor come into the room inked with the grim reaper on his arm?
  14. The second half of 2013 will see a number of functional changes to the site. Updated today was the removal of the Training & Coaching section. Kit Bag will continue to exist and has been moved into General discussion. Tournaments category has become unused as UEFA 2012-2013 has now been moved to archive status. This will condense the layout a bit more. In mid to late June, there will be a day with scheduled downtime while the forum is taken offline and a major version upgrade is performed. As a result of the upgrade, there will be some small changes in functionality. A couple of skins will be departing us at that time, but some new ones will be making an appearance. I will have more details on that as we get closer to the upgrade. On Sept. 1, the image gallery will be shutting down. The goal is to focus on our strengths and the gallery is not one of those. If you have uploaded images that you have not backed up elsewhere, you should retrieve a copy by the Sept. 1 shutdown date. After such time the image content will be irretrievably deleted.
  15. Nice. Although now that I'm a bit less pissed about their policies for the new system I wouldn't mind having the whole thing. Still not pleased about Kinect though, but I'll have it as disabled as possible while still keeping the system functional.
  16. At one time we did have a dark theme that used inverted colors (black background, white text) but no one used it. Another problem is that certain items have to be set one way or the other like smilies. If we have a dark skin, you will see white borders around the smilies. It's not a big thing but little glitches like that are one reason I haven't really bothered with any more dark themes. I will try to work on something that isn't so bright though in the future, but probably not a fully inverted theme.
  17. The skins are pre-made designs. I take it from the provided files and make small changes here and there to fit within the site. Such as the case with the new skin, widening the author info to the left of posts because we allow larger than average avatars, removing group title references, etc. In this case some code for showing the list of new members also had to be removed because it didn't fit properly having the stats moved to the right side.
  18. Things are slowly starting to pick up again around here. After taking advantage of the slower summer season to do the forum software upgrade, development has mostly gone into a lull. In a way, it makes perfect sense. The board is up to date and stable. No reason to fix something that isn't broken. During the upgrade process it was noted that several skins would be disappearing and some new ones would eventually be making an appearance. Today, the first new theme is being released. Those of you who have used other forums that may be running different software may quickly recognize the look. The new theme is VB5, based on the look of that software. Anyone currently using Simple Blue should certainly take a look, as it retains a similar clean appearance while (IMO) having a bit nicer layout. A couple of preview images are attached below.
  19. Hmm, thought I might have had more responses here, then I remembered that no one really posts any more. It is good to see I'm not alone though here. I like your interest in the dolphins there John; creative solution so as not to have to wear a girly looking necklace. Can't say I would have considered all of those options. But then, I don't wear anything that could be considered an accessory, aside from a holster for my cell phone. No watch, rings, necklaces, or even belt buckles. But I'm mostly a jeans and t-shirts guy. Agreed, and an annoying WTF because unless she's wearing a short top, it's one of those things like the dang tattoos that don't reveal themselves right away. Nose piercings at least make themselves known rather quickly. As for the pic of Becks up there, damn near classy were it not for those shining studs in the ears. Never understood what would drive a straight man to having pierced ears and shiny jewelry there.
  20. Removed. Please be aware that deleted accounts can not be recovered. If you wish to have an account again you will need to register a new account.
  21. Guess no one has been watching many movies lately? My most recent viewings were Jack the Giant Slayer and Beautiful Creatures. I'd rate them excellent and very good, respectively.
  22. I will bump this thread back up after a period of inactivity. After a discussion came up with the girlfriend this morning, I've decided that I have a general hatred of tattoos. I'm also not fond of body piercings on men and most unusually placed piercings on females. Together they seem to be increasing in prevalence and I find this a topic that I have come upon far more frequently in the past several years. I for one miss them being primarily reserved for tribal purposes and prison inmates. When did people stop caring about professional appearance? I'm not sure how hiring policies are adapting, but I know when I was charge of hiring at a previous job about a decade ago I had to immediately turn down any applicant that would have a visible tattoo when wearing a short sleeve shirt. We have a pretty varied crowd here from many countries around the world, so I'm quite interested to hear what others have to think about this subject.
  23. I noticed the flashing button and it did take me 2 clicks to get the interface to come up, so it may be a skin issue. But click it more than one, it does work.
  24. A few more changes today that change things a bit further. Creating short links from within SoccerShouts will be much faster now. The external spam database checks were removed. They were both slow an ineffective at slowing the rate of spam. Creating short links from the main shouts.tv page will also be much faster now as well, but any links created from the main page will need to go through a Captcha. The reason for this is that the URL submission method from the main page can be easily be manipulated by spammers to mass submit spam. By putting a Captcha in the way, those easily crafted spam URLs are blocked immediately because they do not include a valid Captcha answer.
